We have a battle of the Sunshine State in College Basketball on Wednesday night. The 11th ranked Florida State Seminoles will take on the Miami Hurricanes at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables. The Florida State Seminoles, who have won three straight games come into the game at -11.5 at MyBookie over the struggling Hurricanes.
Seminoles Riding High
The Florida State Seminoles lead the Atlantic Coast Conference with their 9-2 conference mark. Overall, they are 13-3. They are looking for a few more wins to close out the regular season and wrap up a top 2-3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. During the Seminoles three game winning streak, they have scored 92, 81 and 79 points against Wake Forest, Virginia and Pittsburgh respectively.
The Seminoles have three guys scoring double digits per game. M.J. Walker is the leading scorer, with 13.1 points per game. Oddly enough, in the most recent win, Walker did not score against Pittsburgh. Walker though has scored in double digits in 5 out of his last 7 games. Earlier this season, he scored 22 against Central Florida and 21 against North Carolina.
The losses this season came earlier in the season for the Seminoles. They had their first three games in February postponed due to COVID-19, but before that lost at Georgia Tech to finish January, and also at Clemson and to Central Florida in December. Florida State finishes the regular season against North Carolina, Boston College and Notre Dame.
Hurricanes ready for Season to End
Things have not gone well for the Miami Hurricanes this season. Their 7-13 record has proven that. They also are 3-12 in the league, which is only ahead of Boston College, who is 1-9. Miami has not won since they upset Duke on February 1st at home. Since then, the Hurricanes have dropped games to Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech.
Isaiah Wong is the leading scorer for the Hurricanes. He is averaging over 16 points per game. Wong has gone 8 out of his last 9 games with double digits, with the only time in the most recent loss to Georgia Tech, where he played just 18 minutes.
Miami will finish the regular season on the road at Clemson and Virginia, before hosting Boston College. Outside of the win over Duke, the other conference wins for the Hurricanes this season came on the road at North Carolina State, and also at home against Louisville. Miami also picked up a solid non conference win over Purdue back on December 8th.
Seminoles Master Hurricanes
I just do not see a path where the Hurricanes win this game. Florida State is well coached, and will not look past Miami in this game. The Seminoles have a mission to get to the ACC tournament as the top seed, and this is going to be a step closer to doing so. Look for the game to start close, but as it goes along, Florida State is going to start pulling away. Take the Seminoles to win this game by nearly 20 points.
