Gameweek 26 is packed to the brim with double Gameweeks for the league’s top teams, meaning there are plenty of opportunities for FPL managers to earn heaps of points. Although there are some tough-to-predict matches scattered amongst the 17 matches in Gameweek 26, there are also some very one-sided matches where the captain’s armband could be best used. Hopefully our Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks can unearth some of the heavy point scorers and provide the tips you need to have a good week.
Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks
Raheem Sterling (vs Wolves, vs West Ham)
Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Arsenal in Gameweek 25 saw them record their 13th straight victory and, with the added bonus of Kevin De Bruyne returning from injury, their latest winning streak should only increase. In City’s upcoming gameweek they have two fixtures that should be routine victories as they look to take the Premier League title back to the Etihad Stadium.
One player that will be hoping to continue his good run of form is Raheem Sterling. The English winger scored the all-important goal last weekend and could add to his nine goals and five assists this campaign against West Ham and Wolves. The 26-year-old will profit from the return of KDB in Gameweek 26, who always have an eye to thread the ball into space for Sterling to latch on to.
Pep Guardiola’s men have been treated to two home fixtures over the next 10 days, with David Moyes’ Hammers being the first away side. West Ham are making a bold bid for European football, but they will have to perform better than ever to get a result this weekend. Then, on Tuesday night, the Cityzens face a Wolves team that has struggled against top teams this season. Their switch to a four-man defence is still a work in progress, which will indefinitely be exploited by the energy and raw speed of Sterling, making him an obvious Fantasy Premier League Captain Pick.
Marcus Rashford (vs Chelsea, vs Crystal Palace)
A 3-1 victory over Newcastle saw Manchester United retain their 2nd-place spot in the league last week, with Daniel James, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford all scoring. It is the latter who features in Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks this week. The versatile forward has two great opportunities to add to his nine goals and five assists in Gameweek 26 and is included in our Fantasy Premier League tips.
The Englishman has been in flying form for the Red Devils, winning several penalties and being a constant nuisance for the opposition right-back. The 22-year-old, who has gained praise for his off-field charity work in the battle against child hunger, has become one of the first names on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team sheet recently. Rashford is capable with both feet, has a fierce strike, and always has an eye for a pass, which could be perceived unusual given how he was a striker in the early stages of the career.
Managers who captain Rashford in Gameweek 26 will hope to see some selfishness from the £9.6m-priced midfielder in his next few matches. The Red Devils travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea on Sunday, in what should be a tight match. They then face an away trip at Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, who somehow beat rivals Brighton 2-1 on Monday night, where three points are a must for United if they want Champions League football next year. Rashford certainly will be disappointed if he doesn’t make at least two goal contributions in as many games.
Mohamed Salah (vs Sheffield United, vs Chelsea)
Captaining any Liverpool player at the moment is a brave move considering they have lost their last four league games. However, the chances are that their horrendous run of form will come to a halt against 20th-placed Sheffield United. Even if Liverpool are still shoddy defensively, they should be able to outscore the lowest-scoring team in the league.
One player that Jurgen Klopp will be relying on to step up in the next few games is Mohamed Salah, who has continued to find the back of the net even through this rough patch. The Egyptian has scored 17 goals this season, two more than the entire Blades team, and assisted three other goals. Despite his diving antics, Salah is lethal in the penalty area and his neat close control and smart trickery make him very difficult to dispossess.
The 28-year-old takes on his former team Chelsea in the second-half of Gameweek 26, whom he has scored against twice since joining Liverpool. The ex-Roma winger will be keen to impress when he takes on his old side, and he should get plenty of joy down the right as Blues left-back Marcos Alonso isn’t unbeatable. If Liverpool were to get results in their next few games then Salah will certainly need to get on the scoresheet, which is why he features in this week’s Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks.
Sergio Reguilon (vs Fulham, vs Burnley)
Captaining a defender in Spurs’ double gameweek against two relegation battlers seems daft on paper, however, it is hard to trust them scoring at the moment so this seems the safest bet. Jose Mourinho’s men have won just one game in their last six matches, struggling to score in three of those matches. Although Spurs have plenty of talent in the final third, it seems likelier that they will keep a clean sheet than thump a team by three or four at the moment, which is why Sergio Reguilon is one of the Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks.
The Spanish defender often plays as a left wing-back rather than a left-back in a flat back-four, which means there is as much emphasis on his attacking threat as his defensive soundness. The Real Madrid academy product has three assists to his name this season but is yet to score, however, he could certainly add to his assist tally in Gameweek 26. The 24-year-old is energetic, possesses a great cross, and loves to bomb forward. In his next two matches, Reguilon will face two defensive-minded teams which will certainly allow him to attack plenty as well as collect clean sheet bonuses too.
Spurs are away to Burnley on Sunday in a match they really should win, and fans of other teams in the bottom six will certainly be hoping they do too. They then take on 18th-placed Fulham in one of Tottenham’s several London derbies, and what is another match that they should win in order to close the seven-point gap to 5th-placed Chelsea. Although an obvious pick for these two fixtures would be Harry Kane or Heung-Min Son, it may be wise to look outside-the-box. Reguilon goes in and concludes our Fantasy Premier League tips for the week.
