Atalanta v Spezia
In Portugal yesterday, Covilha lost 0-2 at home to Penafiel and our bet went down with them. We’re even for the week and hoping to get ahead in Italy this evening.
Fifth-placed Atalanta have been given a Friday-night game in Serie A ahead of their Champions League match with Real Madrid on Tuesday. We fancy Gian Piero Gasperini’s men to notch a confidence-boosting win at home to 15th-placed Spezia this evening.
Atalanta are in decent home form, winning six of their last nine league games at Stadio di Bergamo, most recently beating sixth-placed Napoli 4-2 and rock-bottom Crotone 5-1. That success over Napoli is the only one of their seven home wins this season in which the margin of victory was not at least three goals.
Spezia have found it tough going in their first ever Serie A campaign. They are W4-D3-L6 on the road, weakening to W1-D0-L4 against top-six sides like Atalanta. Their last two road trips have brought 0-3 defeats at 14th-placed Fiorentina and third-placed Juventus. We’re backing Atalanta to beat them with something to spare this evening.
